I mustered up the courage to tell my husband we needed to move it. Bless his heart, he is such the servant, one of the may reasons why I married him. He was concerned we would not be able to do it ourselves but I have this problem...once I get a bee in my bonnet, I am going to get it done, even if it kills me. The thing is so tall, we tried to tilt it back to move it and it hit the ceiling leaving a nice big black mark I will have to paint over. I am so thankful that my husband has a physics brain because I truly lack in that department. He sat there and figured out that we would have to lay it flat on it's back, then turn it just so, and slide it through the door frame. Amazing...it worked. And laying it flat allowed it to stand up easily without scraping the ceiling again. Oh....and we forgot it was plugged in!! When we first moved it, all of a sudden, sparks started flying and the cord was flailing about in the air, burning a few spots in my hardwood floors. Nice...they had put two pieces of wire together with electrical tape. It took a good 5 minutes for my heart to start beating again for fear that my husband was about to die and it was going to be all my fault because I wanted to move a silly piece of furniture! After a scare, a lot of sweat and a tad of frustration, it was finally in place and it looks like it was always meant to be there. I knew I loved the cabinet, I just needed to find it's home. This just proves the point....if you buy things you love, one way or another they will work....somewhere.
I also feel that with this piece being in the kitchen now, it becomes a little more casual. It's perfect for my growing collection of ironstone, transferware and silver plus our everyday dishes. For now, I have my fine china in the bottom. I am hoping to have a new home for it soon.
It looks wonderful in its new place. What a lovely piece!
ReplyDeletewhat a beautiful cabinet. I love how you displayed all your collectibles. I have something quite similar and tall and is a bit of a challenge to move around, so I understand where you are coming from. In our last reno we broke a glass pane will moving it.
